3 New Years Resolutions for You and Your Home
The new year is always the perfect time for new beginnings and a fresh start. After the holidays it’s time to throw out all the treats, put away those comfy sweats, and start jotting down some new year’s resolutions. Coming up with new year resolutions can be a daunting task. Here are some realistic goals for you and your home:
1. Declutter your home
One of the easier and least expensive ways to feel better about life and your home is to start decluttering. Start by going through each room and get rid of anything that you don’t use or need anymore.
Clear tables and counters of things you don’t use daily. The less cluttered your house is, the easier it will be to keep clean throughout the year! If you’re having trouble finding a place for items you’re not ready to get rid of, consider putting baskets on your shelves. This will help give the illusion of a clutter-free home!
2. Find a system to keep your home clean
After you’ve finished decluttering your home, it’s time to get a cleaning system down. If you know that Wednesday’s aren’t super busy, make them laundry days. Or if weekends are your busiest time, focus on getting the bulk of the cleaning done on Monday.
You can also delegate chores to the other people in your household. Put someone in charge of vacuuming and some else in charge of the dishes. This will help you get a routine down without everything being on your plate! Getting cleaning done during the week will give you more time to have fun on the weekends.
3. Reduce your bills by becoming more eco-friendly
Trying to be more eco-friendly doesn’t mean you have to go out and buy solar panels or a hybrid car. You can cut down on energy right in your house. Don’t start the dishwasher or washing machine until they are completely full. Remember to turn the light off after you leave the room. Keep your heater at 55 degrees at night. Turn off the faucet to save water when you’re brushing your teeth. Going out of your way to make these small changes in your home can make a big difference over the year, especially in reducing your bills.
